Roger Castro writes: "I Can't believe that 'Cowboy' is gone. I always remember Big John from when we played football. He was one of those guys with whom physical contact during blocking drills usually resulted in me being left on the ground. I guess John was just demonstrating a point from Beer's physics class about objects in motion and vectors.
"Big John, you were one of the good guys. Wish we could have seen more of you and Marci." After high school, John married classmate Marcie Hinton, who survives him.

John had been sick for a while this time around and had MDL (Leukemia), as a result of chemo and bone marrow transplant in 1992-1993.
Marcie attended our 2008 reunion in Sacramento with their daughter Becky.
